The County Government of Uasin Gishu has concluded a feasibility study for the Lelgotet Dam Water Project in Ainabkoi Sub-County. The feasibility undertaken under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Program is part of Governor H.E. Jonathan Bii Chelilim’s commitment to the \u201c Mechebikobeko\u201d promise and a pillar of Nguzo No. 7, as put in prioritizing water to all residents and improving access to clean water for more households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The feasibility team, led by Ms. Mercy Kemboi, Climate Change Unit Officer for Ainabkoi Sub-County, included Sub-County Water Engineer Haron Kiprotich, the Project Management Committee, and local residents. The team observed that Lelgotet Dam holds sufficient water capacity to serve up to 500 households.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The assessment outlined key infrastructure needs for the project\u2019s success. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Installation of solar power systems<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fencing of the dam area for protection<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water conservation measures to maintain sustainable levels<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Construction of cattle troughs to support the local livestock community<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A pump house and a masonry storage tank for water distribution<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project received overwhelming support from the local community, who affirmed the dam’s historical reliability, noting that it has never run dry. They expressed optimism that the project would support both domestic use and irrigation, significantly improving their livelihoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis project has the potential to supply water to the Kipkabus TVET community, Kipkabus Primary and Secondary Schools, several churches in the area, and the Samabut Community Centre,\u201d said Ms. Kemboi. \u201cWe are looking forward to commencing this project as soon as possible under the FLLoCA programme.\u201d She added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
