In a move aimed at enhancing water resource management and infrastructure development, Uasin Gishu County has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority. The partnership seeks to improve water availability, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and secure reliable water access for households and businesses in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on the Nguzo Kumi blueprint, which prioritizes water as a critical driver of socio-economic development.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis partnership is a testament to our dedication to ensuring that every resident has access to adequate and sustainable water resources. By desilting dams to restore their capacity and constructing new water infrastructure, we aim to support agriculture, improve livelihoods, and strengthen our county\u2019s resilience to climate change,\u201d said Governor Bii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement outlines several priority projects, including the rehabilitation of existing dams and water pans, the construction of new water storage facilities, and the development of irrigation systems to support local farmers. Additionally, the county will invest in initiatives to promote rainwater harvesting and ensure efficient water use in urban and rural areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Under the MoU, joint technical teams from the county government and the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority will oversee the implementation of projects, ensuring they meet the needs of the community and align with environmental sustainability standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With agriculture being the backbone of Uasin Gishu\u2019s economy, the collaboration is expected to significantly boost food security and enhance productivity by providing reliable irrigation water to farmers. Furthermore, improved water infrastructure will support livestock farming and other industries reliant on water resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Governor called upon stakeholders, including residents and community-based organizations, to support the initiative by embracing conservation efforts and participating in the projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
