The County Government of Uasin Gishu\u2019s Action Plan on United Nations Security 1325 on women, peace and security has been unveiled, marking a significant milestone for the county’s Gender Strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a speech read by County Executive Committee Member for Gender Anthony Sitienei during the launch held at Home Craft, Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii said the action plan reflects his administration\u2019s collective determination to achieve sustainable peace and equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cOur region has endured past hardships due to instability from insecurities, but with this launch, we declare: Never Again,\u201d the Governor said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe County Action Plan on women, peace and security represents our commitment to a secure, equitable, and inclusive society,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Dr. Bii, who was the chief guest at the launch, said the plan highlights the county’s dedication to addressing critical issues that have impeded the region’s progress while placing gender equality at the forefront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While thanking the partners for coming up with the action plan, the County Boss expressed the need for stakeholders to remain steadfast in ensuring that women’s voices are amplified, their rights protected, and their contributions celebrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Action Plan was developed through a partnership with Rural Women Peace Link (RWPL) as well as technical and financial support from the Embassy of Finland, the County Government of Uasin Gishu, the State Department of Gender in collaboration with Uasin Gishu Civil Society Network, NCCK, Supkem and Catholic Justice Peace Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On her part, Chief Officer for Gender, Eunice Suter, urged every stakeholder to actively support the Action Plan\u2019s implementation, noting that \u201cPeace-building is a shared responsibility\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA transformative aspect of this action plan is the deliberate inclusion of men and boys in advancing gender equality and sustainable peace,\u201d the Chief Officer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy speaker Hon. Sarah Malel said Gender-Based Violence (GBV) statistics in the County were worrying and called for full implementation of the action plan to address and eradicate vices in the society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need to have a candid conversation and we should not shy away as a lot of people are suffering. This action plan will help address some of the issues we\u2019re facing,\u201d said Hon.Patrick Kimaiyo, Chair of the County Assembly of the Gender Committee.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Marcie Atieno from Rural Women Peace Link further noted that through the Embassy of Finland and the county government of Uasin Gishu, \u201cthe partnership demonstrated that we can achieve when stakeholders come together with a shared purpose and commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also challenged all stakeholders to take ownership of the action plan\u2019s implementation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Sally Wuodi from Rural Women Peace Link said Uasin Gishu is now the 19th County to implement and localize the Kenya Action Plan KNAP II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was also attended by County Assembly Committee members on Gender Hon. David Letting, Hon. Regina Chumba and Hon. Robert Kering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present were County Commissioner Representative David Njue, Director for Gender Joywin Sang, Deputy Director for Social Protection Peter Ruto, Tecla Biwott from State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, Deputy Director Gender Esther Serem and Chair Uasin Gishu Civil Society Network Benedine Kipruto, Uasin Gishu County Civil Society Network Gender Chairperson Victor Kemboi and gender champions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
