Various stakeholders in Uasin Gishu County are putting in place measures which according to them will ultimately help curb rising cases of gender-based violence and injustices meted out to women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is even as the country grapples with disturbing statistics of violence and deaths against women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s Pillar number 5 on gender pledges to address such issues alongside Gender-Based Violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is against this backdrop that the County Department of Education, Vocational Training, Gender, Social Protection and Culture is leading the 16 days of Activism against GBV locally, working with its CSO partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 16 Days of Activism against GVB is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women set to run until 10 December, Human Rights Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a planning meeting, the Director for Gender Joywin Sang layed down strategies to sensitize against violence on women, urging residents of Uasin Gishu to Unite under this year\u2019s theme “Towards Beijing +30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girl”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In support of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, she said \u201cThis year we mark the 29th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action \u2013 a visionary global agenda for achieving gender equality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Joywin said currently the County Government of Uasin Gishu’s Department of Gender is in the process of developing a gender policy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The policy will help mainstream the department and also will capture among others the best way of managing gender issues in the county among them finding solutions to end Gender based violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    On his part the Uasin Gishu CSO Network Gender Chairperson, Collins Kemboi said \u201cWe are calling upon all the state and non state actors to partner and collaborate to ensure the 16 Days of Activism that encompasses a series’ of events.”<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    “Let’s all call to an end the rising case’s on femicide and murder on women and girls. I am calling upon all the actors to join hands and make those marked Day’s a success through awareness creation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Director for Social Protection Peter Ruto, Deputy Directors for Gender and Community development Esther Serem, Wainaina Kimingi and Betsy Chepkemboi among partners were also present.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
