Uasin Gishu Governor H.E Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim has emphasized the critical role of the Jua Kali sector in the success of the affordable housing programme, during a conference in Eldoret. The event brought together professionals, members of the Jua Kali Association, and key players in the building and construction industry to discuss the creation of a resilient, climate-smart housing programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Bii urged the Jua Kali sector to maximize the opportunities presented by the ongoing affordable housing projects. He highlighted the sector\u2019s importance, noting that it plays a vital role in Kenya’s economy by providing affordable and accessible solutions for construction, including carpentry, masonry, and tailoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Jua Kali sector is a critical component in the success of the affordable housing programme in Eldoret and across Kenya,\u201d said Governor Bii. “Its skilled trades and locally sourced materials help to reduce costs and ensure affordability in housing construction.”<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Nairobi Rivers Commissioner Hon. Charles Karisa Dadu noted that Uasin Gishu County was the first in Kenya to actualize the President’s bottom-up agenda by organizing an expo through the Jua Kali Shangwe Association. This event aims to educate the public about the potential of affordable housing and its role in boosting the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

County Commissioner Dr. Eddyson Nyale further emphasized that the Jua Kali sector helps lower the cost of building materials and labour, making housing more affordable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Janeth Kosgey, the CECM for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, pointed out that an upcoming exhibition would offer an opportunity for local artisans and craftsmen to showcase high-quality, affordable materials, such as doors, windows, roofing, and fixtures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Officer Housing and Urban Development Mr Julius Koech, also highlighted the importance of ensuring compliance with building regulations to create a harmonious living environment within the city. Local artisans and skilled workers\u2014such as carpenters, masons, and welders\u2014can supply materials and services that meet the community’s specific needs, further driving down costs and ensuring affordable housing becomes a reality.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Shangwe Jua Kali Association Chairman Mr. Karira added that the Jua Kali sector is a significant job creator, employing thousands of people, especially youth and women. “By integrating the Jua Kali sector into the affordable housing programme, we can create thousands of jobs and boost the local economy,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), financial institutions, institutions of higher learning, the media, and government agencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
