As climate change presents significant challenges, innovative solutions are essential for community resilience. The Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program empowers local communities to adopt sustainable practices that enhance their ability to cope with climate impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, a three-day public participation exercise concluded in Uasin Gishu County, focusing on the six sub-counties. Ms. Mercy Kemboi, who led the engagement in Ainabkoi, highlighted the program’s aim to bolster community resilience against climate change.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Key priorities identified by the community include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Water Harvesting Systems: Implementation of systems to collect and store rainwater, ensuring a reliable water supply during dry spells.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Sustainable Agricultural Practices: Education on climate-smart agriculture techniques to improve crop yields while conserving resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Reforestation Initiatives: Planting native trees to restore degraded lands, enhance biodiversity, and combat soil erosion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Drainage System Development: Establishing drainage solutions and awareness programs to mitigate flooding risks in vulnerable areas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The community emphasized the importance of the Usalama and Tendwo Dams:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Usalama Dam: Priorities include redistribution, solar installation, irrigation piping, and enhancing livelihoods.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    Tendwo Dam: Focus on conservation efforts, fencing to prevent encroachment, and establishing distribution lines for irrigation to support households and livelihoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Ms. Kemboi noted that local participation is vital for prioritizing projects that effectively address community needs and challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
