The County Government of Uasin Gishu is set to benefit from a partnership with WorkAid International, an organisation based in UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the partnership, Uasin Gishu will get among others; tools and equipments ranging from plumbing, milk pasteurizers, masonry, bakery, and tailoring to be used to train students in Vocational Training Centres across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WorkAid international officials visited the county on Monday to assess the readiness for VTCs to receive the tools and equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team visited Mugundoi, Ngenyilel and Eldoret Vocational Training Centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

County Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training, Mr. Antony Sitienei said, “This partnership is going to help us holistically, as these equipment will go a long way towards equipping our learners to be ready for the job market. It will also grow our colleges.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur youthful population needs technical training that will help them gain skills to help them generate employment and be independent,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief officer for Education and Vocational Training, Marion Birgen, on her part, said “we have come to the tail end of our negotiations with our partner”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also expressed optimism for the program rolling out and being operationalised soon. “This initiative will ensure that our youths get training in technical skills that will help them develop our country and themselves,” the CO added.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

WorkAid International East Africa Regional Coordinator, Grace Mwangi noted that they are a charity organisation empowering young people in Africa to help themselves by developing the skills and knowledge needed to find gainful employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workaid is a UK based N.G.O.that supports VTCs in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We equip the institutions with tools for welding, fashion and garment making, wiring, food and beverages, salon, barber, bakery and pasteurizers,” Mwangi said<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
